How to Make a Healthy High-protein Spinach Paneer Pinwheels

Today we are going to see how to make a healthy kids lunch-box recipe, Spinach Paneer Pinwheels.

Including spinach in kids' meals can be challenging, as they often try to skip it when it's in poriyal or other dishes.

However, if you serve them spinach paneer pinwheels, they will love the taste and ask for more without realising they are eating spinach. We will prepare this dish in a healthier way so that people of all ages can enjoy it and benefit from its nutrients.

This dish is great for kids. We can put it in their lunch boxes or serve it as an evening snack.

Some Interesting Information about Spinach Paneer Wheel:

Spinach Paneer Pinwheel Puffs are a tasty Indian snack that mixes spinach and paneer in a light, flaky pastry.

These delicious vegetarian bites are great for parties, celebrations, or as a snack with tea that everyone enjoys.

We're taking inspiration from the spinach paneer pinwheel puffs to create spinach paneer pinwheels. However, instead of baking or deep frying them, we're going to shallow fry these pinwheels for a healthier option.

In our version of the Spinach Paneer Pinwheels recipe, we will make spinach puree and mix it with wheat flour to make healthy rotis.

We will then fill these rotis with vegetables, paneer, and various herbs and spices. Finally, we will shape them into pinwheels and shallow fry them.

This dish can be paired with either tomato ketchup or green chutney. In this blog, I’ll also share my own recipe for making a healthy green chutney.

Health Benefits of Spinach:

Spinach is a super healthy vegetable loaded with nutrients.

Spinach is rich in carotenoids, folic acid, vitamin K, vitamin A, vitamin C, iron, magnesium, potassium, calcium, and zinc.

Including at least a handful of these leaves in your daily diet can help prevent cancer and also address various issues like skin health, hair growth, anaemia, and even Alzheimer's disease.

May Prevent Cancer:

Spinach is packed with beta-carotene and vitamin A. It also contains a lot of flavonoids, which have strong anti-cancer properties.

These nutrients can help lower the risk of breast and colon cancer. For men, they can also reduce the risk of prostate cancer and colorectal cancer.

Help in Fixing Alzheimer's:

Spinach is rich in antioxidants, polyphenolic acids, flavonoids, and vitamins.

The nutrients in spinach help address nerve-related issues and support brain development. They also have properties that may prevent memory loss and Alzheimer's as we age.

Healthy Skin:

Vitamin A, which is present in foods like spinach, is essential for your body to develop tissues, especially your skin, which is the biggest organ you have.

This vitamin not only boosts your skin's immune system to help fight off diseases and injuries, but it also keeps your skin moisturised, potentially making fine lines and wrinkles less noticeable.

Healthy Blood:

Spinach is a great source of iron, which is important for your body to produce haemoglobin.

Haemoglobin plays a key role in carrying oxygen from your lungs to other parts of your body. That's why feeling really tired is one of the main signs of not having enough iron.

Healthy Bones:

Vitamin K plays a crucial role in maintaining strong bones and supporting growth, and spinach is loaded with this important nutrient. Just one cup of spinach provides the full daily requirement of vitamin K.

Requirement for Making Spinach Paneer Pinwheels:

For Making the Outer Roti Layer:

Spinach (Palak) - 1 bunch

Wheat Flour - 250g

Green Chilli - 1

Ginger-garlic paste - 1 teaspoon

Salt - As needed

For Making Veggies and Paneer Stuffing:

Onion - 1 piece

Garlic - 10 numbers

Paneer - 100g

Green Capsicum - 1 piece

Red Capsicum - 1 piece

Sweet corn - one handful

Chilli powder - ½ teaspoon

Garam Masala Powder - ½ teaspoon

Amchoor Powder - ½ teaspoon

Chilli flakes - ½ teaspoon

Oregano - ½ teaspoon

Crushed Roasted peanut - ½ cup (optional)

Salt - As needed

Oil - As needed

Procedure for Making Spinach Paneer Pinwheels:

For Making the Outer Roti Layer:

To start, we should blanch the spinach (palak) and set it aside for later.

Next, take a mixer grinder and combine the blanched spinach, one green chilli, and a teaspoon of ginger-garlic paste. Add a little water and blend everything until it forms a smooth puree.

Then, take a large mixing bowl. First, add in the wheat flour, then add the spinach puree to it. Sprinkle in the necessary amount of salt and mix everything together to form a dough.

The consistency of the dough should be similar to what you would use for making chapati or roti. Let the dough rest for about 10 minutes. Our Spinach Dough is ready now.

For Making Veggies and Paneer Stuffing:

To start, we should finely chop the onions, garlic, red capsicum, and green capsicum.

After that, we can grate the paneer and set everything aside.

Next, take a large mixing bowl and combine the chopped onions, garlic, red capsicum, green capsicum, crushed roasted peanuts, and sweet corn.

Peanut is completely optional; if you like to make crunchy pinwheels, you can add crushed dry-roasted peanuts.

Then, add the grated paneer to the bowl. After that, sprinkle in some chilli powder, garam masala, amchoor powder, chilli flakes, oregano, and the right amount of salt.

Mix everything well, then transfer the mixture to another bowl and set it aside. Our veggies and paneer stuffing is ready now.

Making Pinwheels:

Both the spinach dough and paneer stuffing are now ready to make pinwheels.

To start making the pinwheels, take a small ball of the spinach dough.

Next, roll out the dough into flat rotis.

On top of each roti, spread the Veggies and Paneer Stuffing evenly to cover the entire surface.

After that, roll up the stuffed rotis tightly. Once rolled, cut them into small pieces.

Press down in the centre of each piece to shape them into pinwheels. They should look like pinwheels now.

Repeat this process with the remaining dough and stuffing, and set them aside.

Now, heat a frying pan on the stove. Once it's hot, add a little oil and spread it around the pan.

Place the prepared pinwheels in the frying pan and cook them on all sides until they turn golden brown. Once fully cooked, transfer them to a bowl.

We can deep-fry the pinwheels instead of just shallow-frying them, but that's totally up to you. If you want a healthier option, then shallow frying is the way to go.

That's it! Our healthy and tasty Spanish Paneer Pinwheels are ready to serve now.
