Eligibility for YouTube Monetization |
There is another way to earn money. We can get monetization through short videos. For that, we need to get a total of 10 million short video views and 1,000 subscribers within 90 days.
After meeting these requirements, we can apply for monetization. The YouTube team will review our channel and grant us monetization approval.
To understand the YouTube Partner Program eligibility criteria, Create a YouTube channel and start uploading videos; your videos will be viewed by many people.
The total watch time of your videos is calculated based on how long people watch them.
All the videos you upload are added together for this calculation. Within 1 year, your videos must have a total watch time of 4,000 hours.
To reach 4,000 watch hours in a year, we need to consistently upload a lot of videos. Otherwise, one of our videos has to go viral.
Similarly, we also need to gain 1,000 subscribers. Once we hit those 4,000 watch hours, the 1,000 subscribers will likely follow. So, focus mainly on getting those 4,000 watch hours.
If you are a shorts-video creator, you should focus on getting more views for your videos.
Try to get 10M views on all your shorts videos within 90 days. If you succeed, you will probably gain more than 1,000 subscribers.
Focus more on getting views and watch hours rather than stressing about increasing your subscribers.
Once you meet the eligibility criteria for either shorts or long-form videos, you can apply for monetization.
Tips for Getting Monetization Quickly
1. By long-form video content (4000 watch hours)
To earn monetization from long-form videos, you need to keep viewers watching for a longer time. It's important to upload engaging and interesting content.
If people watch your videos for a longer duration, you can quickly reach the 4000 hours needed.
There's another idea to get enough views. We need to upload a lot of videos. Whether they get views or not, we should keep posting many videos.
This way, we can easily reach 4000 watch hours by combining all the videos. 4000 watch hours equals 240,000 minutes.
If each video gets 200 or 300 views, that's sufficient. However, each video should be around 8 minutes long.
If we consistently upload about 200 videos, we can be sure to get 4000 watch hours. By then, we will also have gained 1000 subscribers.
Doing this, you can quickly reach YouTube Partner Program Eligibility and start monetizing.
2. By shorts video content (10M views)

Monetization for Shorts videos |
To earn money from your short videos, you definitely need a few of them to go viral.
Only then can you reach the goal of 10M views within 90 days.
YouTube has set this eligibility criteria because the Shorts feed can easily get a lot of views.
For that, you need to upload engaging videos. It's important to keep posting short videos regularly.
Gaining subscribers through shorts is easy, but getting 10M views in 90 days is tough.
If a video goes viral, it can easily get 10M views.
Long-form content is a better way to earn money than getting monetization through shorts views.
If you want to become famous instead of just making money, shorts are the best way.
However, if you want to create a YouTube channel for money, long-form content is the better option.
More Earning Sources from the YouTube Partner Program
You can earn money on YouTube not just through monetization and advertisements. There are several other ways to make money on the platform. Let's explore the various earning sources available on YouTube.
1. Watch page Ads
Watch page ads are a way to earn money through advertisements that appear in long-form videos.
To qualify for this, you need to complete YouTube Partner Program eligibility (1,000 subscribers & 4,000 watch hours within 1 year).
2. Shorts feed Ads
Shorts feed ads are those advertisements that pop up in between after you watch about 4 or 5 videos in the shorts feed.
The earnings from these ads are shared among the creators of those videos.
To qualify for this, a channel needs to complete YouTube Partner Program eligibility (1,000 subscribers and 10M views within a 90-days).
3. Memberships
Memberships allow viewers to join our channel by paying a fee. This money is shared between YouTube and the creators.
We can post certain content exclusively for these members and offer them special features.
Through this, many viewers may choose to become members. This will bring in a certain amount of money as income.
4. Super Chat
Super Chat allows viewers to give a specific amount of money as a gift to creators during their live streams. This money is shared between the creators and YouTube.
5. Super Thanks
Super Thanks is an option available in the shorts or long videos we upload. It allows viewers to give a specific amount as a gift to the creator.
If people like the video, they can use Super Thanks. The funds are distributed separately to YouTube and the creators.
6. Brand Connect
Brand Connect is a way for any brand company to reach out to us to promote their products. Through this, we can promote brand products and earn money.
7. Shopping
We can use the shopping option in our video to connect people with products they need. It's similar to affiliate marketing.
If we include online products in our video, viewers can click on the link and purchase those products.
When they do, we earn a certain percentage as commission. This way, we can make money.
Some Notes
To earn money through methods other than advertisements, you need to have 500 subscribers and post 3 videos to make money from memberships, super chats, super thanks, and shopping.

Alternatively, you can qualify by achieving either 3,000 watch hours or 3 million views on shorts.
After achieving that, you can quickly enable earning options like membership, super chat, super thanks, and shopping.
It's important to note that if you want to earn money through advertisements, you need to have either 4,000 watch hours or 10 million views on shorts.
Videos you should not upload on YouTube
Read YouTube's policy violations and community guidelines carefully, and make sure to follow those rules when uploading videos.
There are many things that should not be done, such as spam, sensitive content, dangerous content, misinformation, copyright violations, illegal activities, nudity, sexual content, misleading information, harmful content, graphic content, hate speech, issues related to child safety, suicide and self-harm, vulgar language, harassment, and fake engagement.
You can find a detailed list of these rules on the YouTube community guidelines page. Make sure to read it thoroughly to understand everything.
It's important not to download and post other people's videos. Doing so can lead to a "Reused Content" issue, which means you won't be able to monetize your channel.
You can only earn money if your videos are created through your own hard work. So, make sure to create your own videos.
You shouldn't keep posting the same video over and over again because it can lead to a problem with repetitive content.
To get more views, you shouldn't use titles or thumbnails that aren't related to the video.
If you upload videos from others, the owner can give you a copyright strike. The first time, you will get a warning strike.
If you receive three copyright strikes within three months, your channel will be terminated.
So, you need to be very careful. If you get one or two strikes, stay calm. After three months, those strikes will expire, and you can upload videos again. However, you must not repeat the same mistake.
To Apply Monetization on YouTube
After completing all eligibility criteria, an "Apply now" option will be enabled on our monetization page.
You can easily check this through the YouTube Creator Studio app.
When you click "Apply now," a page will appear with some steps to follow. You will need to accept the YouTube terms on that page.
Next, you need to link your YouTube channel to Google AdSense. You must have an existing Google AdSense account or create a new one.
Also, before applying, make sure to enable the two-step verification setting.
After you apply for monetization, the YouTube team will review your channel and give approval. Once approved, you can start earning money.
Google AdSense has several settings. After getting approval, you need to complete settings like ID verification, address verification, bank account details, and tax information. Only then will the money come to our account.
You can only receive the money after it reaches a minimum of $100. If you don't provide a bank account, a bank cheque will be sent to your home address.
